The 2024-2025 academic year opened with incoming classes of 786 students on the Downers Grove Campus and 1,210 students on the Glendale Campus. As they take their first steps on the path to becoming future healthcare professionals, they participate in several activities during orientation week, including white coat fittings, and are welcomed to their programs by the deans of the colleges. Some of the healthcare programs include community service opportunities during their orientations for students to immerse themselves into becoming patient-centered healthcare professionals.

As part of their introduction to Pվ��Ƶ and to promote community service, one of the central values at the University, several programs offered service opportunities as a way to give back to the community. Incoming Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine (CCOM) students and incoming Physician Assistant students packed meals that will be delivered to hungry children worldwide via Feed My Starving Children. Students entering the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine (AZCOM) packed food to be delivered to senior citizens at St. Mary's Food Bank. Incoming College of Pharmacy, Downers Grove (CPDG) students also made no-sew blankets that will be given to disadvantaged children via the My Joyful Heart organization.

“Community service can get overlooked when you’re starting a professional career, but we can do something to find ways to help the communities,” said pharmacy student Kristina Georgis (CPDG ’27). Pharmacy student Erick Flores (CPDG ’27) said this volunteer experience, “allows you to use your position and power to help others in need.” Pharmacy student Delia Pelean (CPDG ’27) concurred, “This experience allows you to appreciate opportunities to help those in the community.” 

The education of the next generation of healthcare professionals is a central aspect and a commitment held dearly by Pվ��Ƶ. As students begin their educational journeys, they learn the value of giving back. This is a value they will carry with them as they continue on their paths to becoming future doctors in a variety of healthcare fields, research experts, as well as healthcare professionals in many fields.
