  2. Provide a clinical and didactic learning environment that supports the educational needs of trainees in internal medicine diseases.
  3. Deliver the tools and resources needed for the career development of our trainees.
  4. Enhance a culture of continuous improvement.
  5. Teach patient-centered communication through shared decision-making and effective interactions with patients, families, caregivers, and professionals.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Canyon Vista Medical Center is committed to the highest standards of ethics, honesty, integrity, and compliance with all applicable federal and state laws and regulations and assures non-discrimination based on federal guidelines and Sponsoring Institution policies.

Our faculty, medical staff, hospital administration, and clinical learning environment welcomes ethnic minorities, women, and groups underrepresented in higher education and has an appreciation for the uniqueness that each person brings to our workplace.

Our program prioritizes recruiting individuals who reflect the society and community that we serve. We are supportive of women, a group that is underrepresented in higher education.

The SI tracks ethnicity match statistics with the goal of increasing the number of underrepresented minorities within our residency and faculty population. Residents have an opportunity to participate in DEI committees through the medical school focused on cultural awareness, belonging, and recruitment of underrepresented minority populations.

Our affiliated medical schools have extended several scholarship funding programs for healthcare students from underrepresented minority groups. These scholarships apply to minority groups as defined by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), including American Indian and Alaska Native communities, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino, and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islanders. They are committed to diversity and supportive of our program's recruiting efforts. The medical school also participates in numerous diverse community outreach programs for high school students.

We strive to enrich our program and provide equal educational and recruitment opportunities for our residents, faculty, and staff. This past academic year, the program attended several focused interactive webinars on DEI. Faculty members are trained in diversity awareness.
